ACTION ALERT: Tell Valadao to Keep Families Together and Oppose Ryan Immigration Bill
Dear SIREN Supporter,
The Trump Administration has put into place a policy that requires criminal prosecution of everyone who crosses the Southwest border without papers. This is a heartless and shameful policy resulting in the cruel separation of children from their parents, indefinite detention of families, and likely drastic reductions in valid asylum claims. How should we treat immigrants and families crossing the border? As human beings with dignity and they deserve communities not cages – plain and simple.
Rep. David Valadao has posted a survey on his website asking whether immigrants should be criminally prosecuted and separated from their families. The answer? Families belong together – period. This week, Congress will be taking up Speaker Ryan’s harsh anti-immigrant bill expected to have a number of inhumane provisions including: keeping children in jail, funding family immigration jails, funding a border wall, and making it drastically harder to get asylum. And Representative Valadao will be a KEY vote. Last week, he already voted against a dangerous immigration bill led by known immigrant hater Rep. Goodlatte – let’s make sure he votes NO on Speaker Ryan’s bill as well!

I was glad to see Rep. Valadao voted no on Rep. Goodlatte’s harsh anti-immigrant bill. I urge him to also vote NO on Speaker Ryan’s bill which will result in more children and families being kept in jail and make it more difficult to get asylum. La Administración de Trump ha puesto en práctica una política que exige el enjuiciamiento penal de todos los que cruzan la frontera del Suroeste sin papeles. Esta es una política desalmada y vergonzosa que resulta en la cruel separación de los niños de sus padres, la detención indefinida de las familias y las reducciones drásticas en las solicitudes de asilo válidas. ¿Cómo debemos tratar a los inmigrantes y las familias que cruzan la frontera? Como seres humanos con dignidad, se merecen comunidades, no jaulas, simple y sencillamente.
El representante David Valadao ha publicado una encuesta en su sitio web preguntando si los inmigrantes deben ser procesados enalmente y separados de sus familias. ¿La respuesta? Las familias deberían permanecer juntas - punto. Esta semana, el Congreso retomará el severo proyecto de ley antiinmigrante de Ryan, que prevé una serie de disposiciones inhumanas que incluyen: mantener a los niños en la cárcel, financiar cárceles de inmigración, financiar un muro fronterizo y dificultar drásticamente la obtención de asilo.
